Let it Snow!

Yorkshire is covered with snow! Yesterday I went out in it hiking for two and a half hours til I couldn't feel my face anymore! It is so stunningly beautiful, fresh, clean. I walked with a girlfriend interrupting virgin snow in the woods, stopping every now and then to gasp at snowlined branches and revel in the frosted valley scene below us.

There is a purity about a countryside blanketed with snow, a quietness, a stillness. Once on top out in a field with a perfect 'Ansel Adams' tree, the wind whipped up and blew crystals across our faces from snowdrifts. We were giggling like schoolgirls, tromping along and sharing the wonder of it all.

In other seasons this walk is equally scenic with daffodils and bluebells carpeting everything while rabbits flounce in tall grass under budding flowering trees, but something about the winterscape made it seem somewhat sacred. At times we walked in silence just listening to the shush-shushing of our snow trousers.

Both of us have an overabundance of things going on in our lives and we granted ourselves the gift of letting it all rest because walking in the pristine, sparkling snow was more important. This is how we celebrate ourselves. Walking, breathing, appreciating beauty and loving our friends.
